An interpreter or translators work is to make you understood, no matter what language you speak or write or your listeners or readers understand.

To do this, we never stop learning. Linguistics is what we are trained in but in our daily work we are dealing with all kinds of areas of expertise. Hence some prerequisites for being a good interpreter and translator are to be extremely inquisitive, to be a thorough and methodical researcher and to put in the time to be able to fulfil the previous two.
